Dear Parents,
We are continuing our study of butterflies. The caterpillars we received have now turned into chrysalises right before our eyes! This week we will begin to learn about the butterfly body parts, further explore their life cycle and discuss why butterflies are important to plants and the planet. We will be reading books such as Starting Life Butterfly by Claire Llewellyn, Farfallina and Marcel by Holly Keller, A Butterfly is Patient by Dianna Hutts Aston, Monarch and Milkweed by Helen Frost, Painted Lady Butterflies by Martha E.H Rustad and Born to be a Butterfly by Karent Wallace. Our letter of the week is X. Please send in your small butterfly pictures no later than Thursday. We will be working on our butterfly journals that will be full of observational drawings. If your child brought home a bean plant in a bag as well as a bean book, please look through it with them and notice their excellent observational drawings. Be sure to plant the bean (roots side down) in some dirt so it will continue to grow and your child can watch the life cycle process of a bean. Remember: No school on Monday! Mandi Heiser [email protected] Hello!
We have a beautiful start to our week so far! Thank-you to the parents that volunteered for the Walk-a-thon! Your help was greatly appreciated! Ray collected $24,000 which will go to enrich student education! This week we will continue to learn all about Butterflies. We will be watching our caterpillars begin to change into chrysalis. We will be completing observational drawings, using life-cycle models to get hands on experience with the change as well as doing some fun butterfly art projects! Please remember, on nice days the students may be working in our garden during their recess. They may get muddy! Please do not sent your student to school in their Sunday best because our primary objective is to give each student hands on learning experiences (which may include dirt). Also don’t forget the sunscreen on sunny days! Have a great week! Mandi Heiser [email protected] Hello!
This week we are very excited because our caterpillars have arrived. This week we will be finishing learning about plants and will learn about another pollinator, butterflies. We will be reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, 10 Caterpillars and Waiting for Wings by Lois Elhert and Gotta Go, Gotta Go. We will be diagraming the life cycle and exploring each stage of the caterpillar’s life. The letter of the week is V. Please send in your pictures no later than Thursday. Please look back at last week’s blog -we are asking students to build a watering can with their parents that they can use in our pre-school garden. Please be sure to donate to the Walk-A-Thon. The money raised will make Ray better for all students. Please follow the attached link to donate http://rayschool.dojiggy.com/ng/index.cfm/aa1f5fe/regPages/pages/?p=b51bff38. We are in need of parent volunteers for the walkathon. There is a sign up outside of the classroom. Thanks! Mandi Heiser [email protected] Hello,
This week we will continue to learn about life cycles, especially plant life cycles. We planted beans and hung them in the window. We are watching them grow, making observational drawings, measuring the sprouts and getting a better understanding of the growth process. We are reading books like the Tiny Seed by Eric Carle, In a Nutshell by Joseph Anthony, Seeds by Charlotte Guillain, Seed to Plant by Gail Gibbons, See How it Grows by Kimberlee Graves. Our letter of the week is letter N. Please send in your N pictures no later than Thursday. Since we are learning about seeds, we have spent a lot of time planting and working in our garden. We are in need of watering cans so every child can have a turn to water the seeds they have planted. Attached are directions to create a watering can the kids can bring to school to use in the pre-school garden. This is a great homework activity that you can do with your child to extend their learning into the home environment! http://ajourneytoadream.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/helpful-yet-simple-diy-for-spring.html?showComment=1332868588728 Just a few reminders:
