Greetings!
This week we will be wrapping up our unit on "All About Me". We will be discussing feelings while reading the book The Way I Feel by Janan Cain and reviewing the rules of recess while reading Mean Jean the Recess Queen. We will reread 5 Creatures and complete our family graphs in small group. Every Monday we complete Mat Man. It is a handwriting without tears (our handwriting curriculum) activity that is paired with a song. While we sing it we put together a figure of a person using wooden pieces. Afterwards students create self portraits. This song and activities help them to remember to add more detail to their pictures. Our color of the week is blue. Please send in a small blue picture by Thursday with your child's name on it. I will be submitting our Scholastic book orders on Wednesday. Our classroom activation code is MZNLW. By inputting this number we will get points that can be used for books for the classroom. We ask that you please pay with credit card online rather than with money sent to school. Don't forget, if you child is going to kindergarten next year and you are not in Ray boundaries, please be sure to sign up for the lottery (more information is on last week's blog). Next week we will start a unit on apples. We are looking for donations of apples and gourds for the classroom! Have a wonderful week!

Hello Again!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! This week we will continue our unit on All About Me. We will be reading the book Five Creatures by Emily Jenkins and It's Okay to Be Different by Todd Parr. We will be discussing our families as well as what makes each of us special. We will complete another personal characteristic graph (what colors eyes we have). We will also begin doing library on Tuesday. Please be sure to read the letter sent home Monday so that you and your child understand the library routine. Our color of the week is red. Please send in a small red picture for us to add to our red collage.
Have a wonderful week! Greetings!
This week we will continue our All About Me study! If you have not turned in your "What's in a Name" project, please do so. Also we are still accepting the Kissing Hand projects. Please submit both as soon as possible. This week, we will be discussing how to resolve conflict in the classroom. We use something called "The Wheel of Choices". We teach different ways to resolve problems students may have inside the classroom. This week we are teaching one technique called "Bugs and Wishes". When a student has an issue with another child (i.e. someone took a toy away, one child will not play with another) a student can walk up to the child and using a visual of a bug and a wand and will say, "It bugs me when you do that, I wish that you would stop". This is a good way to begin teaching appropriate conflict resolution and restorative practices. My hope is that through this, we can teach the children how to interact with one another in a positive way. To go along with this, we will be reading David Goes to School by David Shannon and Pete the Cat Rocking My School Shoes, Pete the Cat I Love my White Shoes by James Dean and Eric Litwin. We will be starting our color collage this week as well. The color of the week is yellow. Please send in one small, yellow item that we can easily glue to a paper for our classroom color book. A good activity to do is to look through a magazine with your child for a yellow item and cut it out together. Please be sure to write your child's name on the back of the picture before you send it in. We will need all picture in by Thursday. Don't forget to send in your black 3-4inch binder this week! We will use it as your child's classroom portfolio! Also please be sure to enter and exit through the main doors! Have a wonderful week! Mandi Heiser Hello!
Don’t forget! The Preschool Meet and Greet is on Friday, September 4th from 1:45-2:45! Just a few last minute changes before the 1st day on Tuesday, September 8! Administration has requested that students enter through the main doors at Ray. Parents or guardians (18 or older) must walk students all the way to the classroom and sign them in. We do this to ensure every students safety. Please exit through the main doors. Parking can be difficult so please allow yourself EXTRA time so the first day is a success! Your child will have a much better first day if it can be as relaxed and stress-free as possible. Please be sure to review the packet that was sent home so you are aware of your phase in time and procedures (new students only). A good breakfast/lunch is important because we do not do snacks at school. Please no backpacks unless your child goes to childcare after school. Can’t wait to see everyone on the first day!
