Hello!
Sorry for the late post-I was out yesterday due to illness. No color or letter of the week this week due to the short week! Next week we will be learning about the letter L and the color pink. The letter L is the first letter introduced in the Hand Writing without Tears curriculum which introduces letters by their appropriateness for fine motor skills. Students will be practicing writing the letter L as well developing phonemic awareness using the letter L. Be sure to send in a small pink picture for our classroom book as well as a picture of something that starts with the letter L. This week we are still reading our pumpkin books including Big Pumpkin, It’s Pumpkin Time by Zoe Hall. We dissected our pumpkin and voted on what shapes to make the pumpkin’s features. We will also be making an anchor chart where we will write about the characteristics of the inside and outside of our pumpkin. We will be tasting apple cider next Monday with our 8th grade buddies! If you are willing to donate these supplies we would greatly appreciate it: Shaving cream Feathers for art projects Pom poms Don’t forget! Thursday –Parent/Child Activity 9:30-10:30 in the lunchroom (Please join us in playing the academic games that are used in the classroom) Friday-Class Field Trip to Eden’s place-9:00-11:30 (Be sure to feed your child a big breakfast because there will be no snacks on this trip)

Hello!
Hello! This week we will continue to learn about apples! We will be practicing labeling the parts of an apple, dissecting an apple and counting the pips as well as following a recipe and making apple sauce. We will be reading 10 Apples on Top by Dr Seuss, Big Red Apple by Tony Johnson as well as re-reading some of our favorite apple books from last week. A BIG thanks for all of you who sent in apples and gourds last week! I REALLY appreciate it! Our color of the week is purple. Please send in your purple picture no later than Thursday. This is the homework for the week so please be sure to look for something purple with your child! Do not forget to turn in your field trip form and money. Cash only please, the office no longer takes checks! We would love parent volunteers, so please come if you are able! As cooler weather begins, we are trying to ensure that students can dress themselves independently. If we had to physically dress every student we may never make it outside! We need your help to practice this skill at home! Here is an article on how we teach students to put on their own coats. We call it the “Pre-school Flip”. http://www.teachpreschool.org/2013/02/how-to-put-on-a-coat/ Hi!
This week we are starting our unit on apples. Today we created a KWL chart. With this chart we identified what we know about apples, on Tuesday we will determine what we want to learn about apples and at the culmination of the unit we will write about what we learned about apples. To accomplish our learning goals, we will be reading books about about such as Apple Farmer Annie by Monica Wellington, Apple, Apples, Apples by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace and Apples and Pumpkin by Anne Rockwell. We will also be dissecting and apple and diagramming it this week and doing an apple taste test. If you are able to donate some apples (red, yellow, green) I would greatly appreciate it! We will also be doing an 1:1 correspondence |
