Dear Pre-K Families.
We had very sad news this week, after a long and difficult battle with cancer, Jane Averill, affectionately known as "Miss Jane," passed away peacefully Monday at 6:15 am, surrounded by her family. Jane served as the teacher in Room 413 for many years, first in the tuition-based classroom and then in the half-day Ready to Learn Classroom. Ms. Green had the opportunity to work with Ms. Jane for 2 years as her assistant. We had the honor to work alongside Miss Jane as a teacher for many years. We could always count on her for the right book, an idea for the classroom and a good talk about developmentally appropriate teaching. The Art Committee will be having a dedication ceremony for the new Art gallery Space this Thursday, December 10th. It will be videotaped and a copy sent to Tom, Ali and Michael (Jane’s Family). Please consider staying after school for a few minutes as a way to say "Thank You" to Jane for all her years of advocating for the best education for our smallest students. We will miss her dearly. This week we will continue to learn about the Gingerbread Man. We will be reading The Gingerbread Bear by Robert Davis, The Gingerbread Pirates by Kristin Kladstrup the Gingerbread Boy by Paul Galdone. We will be recording ourselves reading the story using the iPad. We will listen to the children’s renditions at the end of the day. We will be decorating gingerbread houses with manipulatives working on one-to-one correspondence skills as well as numeral identification. Our letter of the week is T. Please send in your small pictures that start with the letter T no later than Thursday! Please keep Jane’s family in your thoughts, Mandi Heiser [email protected]
