Happy March!
We have officially started our project study on turtles. Thus far we have read about sea turtles, box turtles and painted turtles. We did observational drawings, created a KWL chart (know, want to know, learn) and created a map about our current knowledge on turtles. We explored real turtle shells we have on loan from the nature museum and used life cycle diagrams to explore the life cycle of the sea turtle. We also have created a sea turtle habitat in our water table. On March 24th we will be going to the Shedd Aquarium to see real sea turtles. There will be more information coming out about this trip within the next few weeks. Also, there will be a parent child activity on March 25th from 9:30-10:30. Please make arrangements to attend with your child. We will be reading Sea Turtles by Gail Gibbons, Turtle Girl by Carole Crowe (with age appropriate modifications), The Life Cycle of a Painted Turtle by Andrew Hipp, Box Turtle at Long Pond by William T George. In small groups, we will be working on numeral recognition as well as letter/letter sound recognition. Our letter of the week is J. Please send in your J pictures no later than Thursday. Have a great week! Mandi Heiser [email protected]
