Hello,
We are continuing our unit on turtles. So far we have learned about sea turtles, tortoises as well as fresh water turtles. We have created a chart depicting traits from each of these types of turtles. We have been doing book walks through the books we have read thus far to help us remember facts to add to our chart. We have also viewed videos to observe the different turtles we have studied. This has also provided additional information for our chart! This study has lead us into some interesting discussion on endangered turtles and also turtles that are extinct (Lonesome George). The students were very excited to talk about this and wanted to know how and why turtles become endangered and extinct. This has facilitated some thought-provoking discussions on conservation and taking care of the world around us. We will be taking a field trip to the Shedd on March 24. We will be departing from Ray at 9am and returning around 11:45. We are asking parents to send in $8 and $7 for students. This will cover our entrance and bussing. Please be sure to send in the money no later than March 18th. Be sure to submit your permission slip and money ASAP! While at the museum students will be observing real turtles and we will need adult support to make our unit really come to life! Please consider joining us! This week we will be studying the letter D. Please send your letter D pictures by no later than Thursday. Have a great week! Mandi Heiser [email protected]
