Greetings!
This week we will continue our All About Me study! If you have not turned in your "What's in a Name" project, please do so. Also we are still accepting the Kissing Hand projects. Please submit both as soon as possible. This week, we will be discussing how to resolve conflict in the classroom. We use something called "The Wheel of Choices". We teach different ways to resolve problems students may have inside the classroom. This week we are teaching one technique called "Bugs and Wishes". When a student has an issue with another child (i.e. someone took a toy away, one child will not play with another) a student can walk up to the child and using a visual of a bug and a wand and will say, "It bugs me when you do that, I wish that you would stop". This is a good way to begin teaching appropriate conflict resolution and restorative practices. My hope is that through this, we can teach the children how to interact with one another in a positive way. To go along with this, we will be reading David Goes to School by David Shannon and Pete the Cat Rocking My School Shoes, Pete the Cat I Love my White Shoes by James Dean and Eric Litwin. We will be starting our color collage this week as well. The color of the week is yellow. Please send in one small, yellow item that we can easily glue to a paper for our classroom color book. A good activity to do is to look through a magazine with your child for a yellow item and cut it out together. Please be sure to write your child's name on the back of the picture before you send it in. We will need all picture in by Thursday. Don't forget to send in your black 3-4inch binder this week! We will use it as your child's classroom portfolio! Also please be sure to enter and exit through the main doors! Have a wonderful week! Mandi Heiser
